Create Emergency Repair Disk (and back up system files to Winnt\Repair\Regback)
(update the Repair Disk whenever you make major changes to the system such
as installing new programs)
Back up BOOT.INI file on system partition.
Use Backup utility to back up the System State
Run CHKDSK immediately after incomplete shutdowns and/or system crashes
(You may need to run CHKDSK more than once.)
Read your Application and System logs in Event Viewer.

determine
what causes them.)
