Where?

The Communidad Indigena de Chacala is a reserve just south of Puerto Vallarta on the pacific coast of Mexico. In the United States the Communidad would be known as an Indian reservation.

Forty five minutes by boat (ponga), just outside of Puerto Vallarta Mexico, you will reach Yelapa. An old fishing town of about 2000 people. The town is now a mix of native peoples and Foreigners, generally living in peace together.

The best way to get to CASA XIPE TOTEC in Yelapa is to fly into Puerto Vallarta and spend the night. There are reasonable hotels in Vallarta, ie. The Marlin, The Rosita, El Pescador, etc. After your stay in Vallarta, you must make it to catch a water taxi or 'ponga' from either the dock at Los Meurtos 'The Dead' or from the Boca de Tomatlan.

Water Taxis leave on the hour until about 5:00 pm. After that the seas may kick up a bit. The taxis should cost 75 - 90 pesos one way, or about 8 to 10 USD.

The last stop for the taxis is Yelapa. You should get off at the big beach. Relax and have a drink on the beach. We are right across the lagoon. You can either get used to it and trek across the lagoon or walk up through the cafe and down the trail. Don't worry you are almost there.
