It took me a while when I saw the signs to figure out what they were about. No one in my town seemed to know [and I don't know many people in my town] and some people had differing guesses, ranging from wanting a stop to state trooper roadblocks to freedom from taxes. When the REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER signs went up, I was starting to get an idea that it wasn't something I'd be down with. I asked around, I looked on the Internet. VT is a weird shadow state in that it hasn't really discovered the Internet yet. Hence this website.

The slogan is tough to refute with more slogans. Vermont is a mobile state, you have to have a sign people can read from their cars. And what's the retort? GIVE AWAY VERMONT? Here's some suggestions I got along with some of my own.

My friend who I bought my house from thinks the Abenaki should organize a GIVE BACK VERMONT movement. I voted for BAKE TACK VERMONT. It makes no sense, but you can use available signs. Similarly BAKE A CAKE VERMONT would only take two signs with the message "don't you have anything better to do with your time?"

TAKE CRACK VERMONT?

KEEP LOVE LEGAL?

EMBANK VAT ROCKET [just one sign, again]?

HOW FAR BACK?

REMEMBER: VERMONT IS FOR LOVERS didn't Vermont use "Vermont is for Lovers" in their touristy literature?

I wanted to just put up a big lavender sign high up on my barn that just said YAY after the bill passed. Or, I [heart] HOMOS. You do need to worry somewhat about people taking it too personally and deciding to take your sign out with a shotgun, these people are all heavily armed.

Me and my partner in crime on this website, after going back and forth about printing up the entire preamble to the consitution and wheatpasting it over the signs [they are tough to reach and who can read that from the road?] figured that the best thing to do would be to use the slogan as our own. Now the simple addition of a .COM to the offending signs makes them into billboards for the opposition. Now let's see if I'm brave enough to actually do this.... wish me luck.
