Nicaragua's Atlantic Coast, a sparsely-populated region of jungles and swamps, was once a British protectorate. Many of the English-speaking Creole people and Indians who live there still see their area as place apart from the Spanish-speaking Pacific Coast, where 90 percent of Nicaraguans live.
