The magazine name and date of publication comprise the item code at the beginning of each description. For example, LHJ-1241-25 means Ladies Home Journal, December 1941, item 25 in a group of ads or illustrations from that issue. Weekly magazines, such as Life and Saturday Evening Post, include the month, day and year of publication. For example, L-22149-05 means Life, February 21, 1949, item 5.
Ads are designated full/half page color (FPC/HPC) or full/half page black and white (FPB/HPB). Some black and white ads have a single-color overlay. Most half-page ads are vertical; for smaller ads, exact image dimensions are provided.
